Learn What you Lose Before you Lose It
Here are some of the key property restrictions that you will now face, and where to find them in the Streetsville HCD Plan.
The page numbers reflect the actual printed page numbers in the bottom right hand corners.
Roofing (pg 30)
You can only replace your roof with approved materials, which may not match your needs or budget
Skylights (pg 30)
Skylights and vents should not be visible to the “public realm”, meaning people on the sidewalk, or driving by should not be able to see them
Wall Alterations (pg 29)
You are not permitted to paint your exterior brick wall if it was not already previously painted.
Trees (pg 42)
Some trees can not be removed without a Heritage Permit Application to the City of Mississauga.
Landscaping (pg 43)
You must meet the landscaping policies of the HCD plan, which explain how you must configure your lot and what landscaping is acceptable.
Character (pg 49)
Any visible changes to your property must complement the historic character, but must not mimic it. Nor should it be too contemporary. The city will subjectively decide what aesthetic they will approve or reject.
Tell the City of Mississauga ‘NO’
Streetsville has been a vibrant neighbourhood for decades without the local government dictating how residents can manage their own homes. Protecting heritage sites should not also mean removing your rights.
